Nanuq Law is a small boutique firm in Victoria, British Columbia. Our office is located in Royal Oak however we provide legal services to clients all over Vancouver Island and the Mainland.

Marlisa H Martin

Marlisa H. Martin has been a member of the British Columbia Bar since 2011. She has represented clients at each level of court in British Columbia, including the British Columbia Court of Appeal as well as before the Human Rights Tribunal and the Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT). While Marlisa thoroughly enjoys getting into court and advocating for her clients rights she knows that the court process can be stressful and overwhelming. She strives to make the entire process as painless and easy as possible for you and will work with you to resolve your matter with your best interests in mind.

She primarily practices in personal injury representing clients who have been in car accidents on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. She also assist clients with Human Rights complaints and WorksafeBC appeals.

Marlisa is a member of the Canadian Bar Association(CBA), the Trial Lawyers of British Columbia and the Victoria Bar Association. Marlisa volunteers as the Chair of the CBA Island Civil Litigation subsection and Secretary for the Victoria Bar Association. In her personal life Marlisa volunteers for the Easter Seals at various events throughout the year.

Marlisa was raised in Churchill, Manitoba (The Polar Bear Capital of the World). After attending Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario to obtain her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology and Psychology, she moved back to Churchill to raise her young family. She decided to return to school and was forever changed when she obtain a spot in the UVIC Law School program in 2006. The first winter in Victoria was enough to convince her that, while she loved the North, it was far too cold to return! She has called Victoria home ever since and is glad to be able to bring a bit of the North into her practice.

Mark Walton

Mark Walton had a successful career with the Royal Air Force, working in the UK, Canada, and The Netherlands, before qualifying as a lawyer in Nova Scotia in 2008. He has three law degrees having studied law at three Canadian law schools (Dalhousie, University of New Brunswick, and the University of Alberta).  Mark has been practising law in Victoria since early 2012.
 
Mark has represented clients at all levels of our courts in British Columbia: Provincial, Supreme, and our Court of Appeal. Mark recognizes the courts important role of our courts and he recognizes that optimal solutions are often available through effective communication and alternate methods of dispute resolution such as mediation.
 
Mark has experience in family law, personal injury (motor vehicle accidents (plaintiff and ICBC defence), employment law, labour law, human rights law, and constitutional law. Mark was recently successful in our Supreme Court where he argued for his client’s freedom of expression in College of Midwives of British Columbia v. MaryMoon 2019 BCSC 1670 (CanLII). Mark was also successful in arguing in our Court of Appeal for a family law client in Steward v. Ferguson 2018 BCCA 158.
 
Mark is a Dad of two young boys. He regularly runs and he plays soccer.
 

Alyx Speth

Alyx was born in Edmonton Alberta, but has lived in Victoria for most of her life, and while she enjoys snowboarding whenever she gets the chance she is thankful that her family brought her to the warm temperate climate on Vancouver Island.

In addition to being fun and active, Alyx is an excellent paralegal having graduated from the Capilano Paralegal Program, with distinction, while maintain full time employment in a busy litigation law firm. She has over 10 years of experience in the legal field and enjoys the fast paced nature and the complexity of litigation. During her career, she has assisted on files in Provincial Court, Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal and has a wealth of knowledge as a result.
